In Memoriam

Some facts about Miguel:

Dr. Berrios was born in Santiago, Chile. He graduated from San Ignacio El Bosque High School and went on to study Biology at Pontifical Catholic University, Santiago, Chile.

In 1977, the Ford Foundation awarded him a grant to study with Michael Bedford of Cornell University. He was admitted to the PhD. program at Rockefeller University in 1978, where he studied under Dr. Gunther Bloblel, 1998 Nobel Laureate in Medicine. Dr. Berrios began his career at Stony Brook University as a post doc in Pharmacology, where he taught, managed a lab and directed the University Microscopy Imaging Center (UMIC). He edited two volumes: ‘Nuclear Structure and Function’ (Academic Press) and ‘Methods in Cell Biology’ (American Society for Cell Biology).

Dr. Berrios enjoyed year round outdoor swimming, kayaking and furniture making, especially replicating Shaker style furniture from scratch. He was a board member of NYCRCSSG and was very active in it’s mission to help other Colorectal patients.
