NEW YORK COLORECTAL CANCER SURVIVORSHIP & SUPPORT GROUP

WE ARE A PATIENT DRIVEN SUPPORT GROUP HELPING THOSE OF US WHO HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH A COLORECTAL CANCER (CRC).

—————————————————————————

OUR GOALS:

————————————————————————-

— we seek encouragement from each other,

— we have formed a support network to help each other & other newly diagnosed patients,

— to gain insight into the emotional aspects of a Colorectal cancer or a Colorectal disease diagnosis,

— to develop coping mechanisms,

— to enhance the emotional healing process,

— to learn of the advances being made in Colorectal cancer & disease research.

In the United Sates, there are projected to be 135,430 individuals newly diagnosed with CRC and 50,260 deaths from the disease every year. Although the majority of new cases (58%) occur in people aged 65 years or older, 45% of men and 39% of women are younger than age 65 yrs. at diagnosis. We, as survivors, know these statistics all too well. However, statistics do not tell the whole story. Behind these numbers are men, women, children and families who are devastated when they hear the words “Colorectal Cancer / Disease “.

“Where do I turn?” ” Who can I talk to?” “What will my life be like?” This is precisely why the New York Colorectal Cancer Survivorship & Support Group was formed. Its mission is to provide support and correct information, to newly diagnosed patients, by people who are survivors.

Since 2017, the NYCRCS&SG has sponsored monthly support meetings and have brought in guest speakers. We sponsor a ‘March Colon Cancer Awareness Luncheon’ and a Cancer Survivors Day lunch.  We have designed and produced a ” 5 year Survivor Pin”, for when a person meets that milestone. NYCRCS&SG is an incorporated, non-profit, tax exempt 501(c)(3) charity, ( NYS tax exempt # 81-4756368 ). We have  developed this website to reach people who are looking for some answers. We have assigned mentors from the group to support newly diagnosed people. We can proudly say that NYCRCS&SG has been able to financially assist families when needed. Please contact us with your concerns.
